Did a hive inspection with George who lives down on Anastasia Island near Mickler and the south fire station.
We opened it and found hive beetles on toip of the frames...so I see I have some work cut out for me!
The hive had comb drawn out on all of the frames except for just a little on the #1 and #10 frames on the outsides.....so we put a honey super on top (only had a deep).
He thought it was a very productive hive (2 10 frame deeps), so I am encuraged.
Now...I might need some help in controling the beetles....first I am going to put a screen bottom board with a tray trap under the hive....put some cooking oil in the tray to trap them.
Another thought was to place a beetle trap on top of the frames?....what do you think?
I am finding a place to put the video I made to link it here....any ideas on that?...a free place?....lol

Beetle Blasters work great in Florida.
This is the wrong time of year to expand your hive. Beetles and Moths love the extra room and soon your hive population will decrease unless we have no winter (not likely).

Maybe adding supers is not such a bad idea if your hive is strong. Please see this.
